My quick take
Sol-U-Mel is a concentrated cleaner. One bottle makes up to 12 spray bottles of cleaner. The tea tree oil inside helps it clean and fight germs. At about $0.06 per spray use, the math is really good. You have to dilute it right or it leaves a residue.
My call: Strong Pass — The concentrate math is where it wins. Mix it right and it is a great deal.
What I noticed when I used it
| Sense | What I noticed |
|---|---|
| Sight — what I saw | Clear amber liquid in the bottle. No cloudiness. Looks clean and simple. |
| Smell — what I smelled | Strong tea tree smell straight from the bottle. Once mixed with water, the smell is light and pleasant. |
| Touch — how it felt | A little oily straight from the bottle. Mixed with water it feels like regular water. Rinses clean. |
| Feel — while cleaning | Felt calm and safe using it. No burning eyes. No strong fumes. |
| Later — after it dried | No streaks on glass or tile when mixed right. A little residue if you use too much. |
How it made me feel
Calm
No harsh fumes. I could clean without opening every window.
Care
Tea tree oil felt like a thoughtful ingredient for a family home.
Ready
One bottle ready to mix means I am always stocked up.
Trust
The math is honest. I can see exactly what I am paying per use.
Six ways I thought about it
Reason — why it works
Tea tree oil and ethanol cut through grease and fight germs. Citric acid dissolves mineral buildup.
Memory — what I remember
One bottle made 12 spray bottles. That surprised me in a good way.
Imagination — picture this
Think of one small bottle under your sink that replaces 12 spray bottles.
Will — your choice
You need a Melaleuca membership. The upfront cost is higher but the per-use cost is very low.
Intuition — my gut
Concentrate cleaners feel smarter to me. Less plastic, less waste.
Perception — what I see
Small bottle, big value. The label is honest about how to mix it.
What is in it — plain words
I read the label on the bottle I bought. Here is what I found.
| Ingredient | Flag | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tea Tree Oil (T36-C5) | ✅ Active | Melaleuca's own tea tree oil. Fights germs and helps dissolve grease. |
| Ethanol | ✅ Good | Natural solvent. Cuts grease and dissolves sticky residue. Evaporates clean. |
| Sodium Lauryl Sulfate | ⚠️ Watch | Helps lift dirt off surfaces. Safe for cleaning. Diluted to working strength, skin concern is very low. |
| Citric Acid | ✅ Good | Dissolves hard water spots and mineral buildup. Comes from citrus. |
| Water | ✅ Good | Purified water base. |
No bleach. No ammonia. Clean formula. SLS concern is very low at the right dilution.
The math — what you really pay each time
One ounce of concentrate per 16 oz of water. One bottle makes about 16 spray bottles.
| Product | Price | Uses | Per use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Melaleuca Sol-U-Mel (mixed)Member price, per spray | $18.00 / bottle | 300+ | $0.06 |
| Method All-Purpose Spray28 oz ready to use | $4.99 | 70 | $0.07 |
| Seventh Generation Multi-Surface26 oz ready to use | $5.49 | 65 | $0.08 |
| Mrs. Meyer's All-Purpose16 oz ready to use | $4.99 | 40 | $0.12 |
Sol-U-Mel at $0.06 per use is the lowest cost I found. And it is the only one with tea tree oil built in.
Questions I get asked a lot
What can I clean with it?
Hard surfaces like counters, tile, glass, and floors. Test a small spot first on natural stone or unsealed wood.
How much do I mix with water?
One ounce of Sol-U-Mel per 16 ounces of water for regular cleaning. Two ounces per 16 ounces for heavy grease. Do not use it straight from the bottle on surfaces.
Is it safe near food?
Yes when mixed right. Rinse food surfaces after cleaning. The tea tree oil and ethanol evaporate clean.
